hey there!

I’m Cherie

I hated my body for as far back as I can remember. In high school, I was so desperate to be like my skinny friends that I used athletic tape to try and tape in my stomach (which didn’t work, btw)… something that they made fun of me about even years later at a funeral.

In the first several decades of my life, I probably spent hundreds of hours…

  • Obsessing about what others thought about my appearance
  • Crying in front of the mirror and changing outfits over and over
  • Poking and pinching at body parts
  • Sucking in my stomach or trying to hide it with clothes or Spanx
  • Letting what the scale said dictate my mood and self-confidence…

Not to mention the eating disorder and compulsive exercise that consumed me for years in my quest to be thinner… to finally feel okay about myself.

But eventually, I broke free from all the bondage and misery that comes with body shame and disordered eating. I built an identity that’s not based on what I look like, and even though I don’t love how my body looks most days, it doesn’t define me anymore. I’m building a life around much more important things than my body shape or size, because I am more than my body.

You are more than your body, too.

I don’t know you yet, but I know 100% that what makes you special isn’t–and will never be–your pants size.

But do YOU know that yet? If not, that’s what I want to help you discover!

A little about me

After graduating with a Bachelors in English, I spent 10 years in corporate marketing before I was finally able to go back to school to get my Masters in Counseling. Even before that, I was passionate about helping others in eating disorder recovery and spent a lot of time volunteering at the Eating Disorder Foundation of Denver leading support groups, being a 1:1 mentor, and speaking to groups in the community about eating disorders.

I am so grateful that I get to do this work as my career now, and I’m truly honored by every client and supervisee who allows me to part of their journey!

Here are the nuts and bolts of my professional qualifications and accomplishments:

  • Masters of Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University
  • Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in Texas
  • Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Consultant (CEDS-C) and Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist (IEDS)
  • 15 years of experience as an eating disorder therapist, coach, mentor, speaker, and advocate
  • Continuing education teacher for other therapists on eating disorder, OCD, and trauma topics
  • Featured in TIME, TIME againNewsweekHuffPost, Canvas Rebel, Dallas Voyage, Style Caster, and others
  • Podcast guest on over 15 podcasts
  • Member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) and the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF)

My style of therapy is described as warm, humorous, and direct. I am very compassionate, but I also don’t “baby” my clients by not telling them the hard-to-hear things that can change their lives! I believe you’re strong enough to do this, so my goal is to EMPOWER you. In my professional opinion, that means lovingly supporting and challenging you. I also look for opportunities for us to laugh in session, because I think that can be a healing experience, too 🙂

Ok, let’s get personal!

I’ve come a long way in my own journey, but I certainly haven’t arrived… and I’m working on accepting that I never will. What can I say, I’m a recovering perfectionist! But I’m the happiest, most peaceful I’ve ever been, and I’m so grateful for that.

Life is pretty crazy for me as a working mama of two spirited kiddos. My 11-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter keep me busy (and tired, ha!). I’ve been married to my husband for 11 years, and we also have an adopted Pitbull mix and a cat who thinks she’s a professional escape artist. In the few moments I have “me” time, you’ll probably find me reading, wrapped up in a cozy blanket with a cup of coffee in hand.

So… after learning all about me professionally and personally, if you’re interested in working together, hit the button below and let’s get started!
