FAQ’s about coaching with me

Food & Body Image Coaching might a good fit for you if you’re tired of feeling crazy, stressed or guilty around food.

Coaching should not be a replacement for therapy if you have a clinical eating disorder. Clinical eating disorders are complex and medically dangerous mental illnesses, and as such, coaching is typically meant to supplement outpatient treatment from a therapist or dietitian, not take the place of it. Also, therapy is the appropriate treatment for serious mental health issues like depression or anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or unresolved trauma.

However, Food & Body Image Coaching might be an option on its own for someone with subclinical disordered eating, body image issues, or who is further along in their recovery.

If you’re not sure if you have a clinical eating disorder and don’t currently have an outpatient treatment team, we can discuss in a free 15-minute consultation call whether you would need a therapist or dietitian in order for us to do coaching together. Contact me here.

Unlike therapy, coaching:

  • Does not diagnose and treat mental health issues using psychological interventions
  • Is more focused on the “here and now” to help with current challenges
  • Does NOT explore or treat trauma in any way
  • Offers support and accountability for goals not related to deep psychological work
  • Offers support and accountability regarding meals and eating regularly/sufficiently, but does not do meal planning or offer nutritional counseling (which a therapist doesn’t do either–that’s the role of a dietitian!)

I do both! I offer a 12-week program with a curriculum of things to learn and do, including homework. I also offer sessions that don’t follow a set structure. Often, clients go through the 12-week program and decide to continue meeting with me for regular, unstructured sessions for ongoing support in practicing all they’ve learned. Or you can just start with that if a more structured program doesn’t appeal to you!

Some examples of things that might be included in your coaching would be:

  • Learning about and practicing the principles of intuitive eating
  • Learning about Health at Every Size (HAES)
  • Activities to increase body acceptance
  • Exploring your true values outside of your appearance
  • Exploring and building motivation for change
  • Helping you set day-to-day goals and supporting you in achieving those goals
  • Meal support (i.e., eating meals, snacks and fear foods together)
  • Otherwise supporting the work you might be doing with a therapist and/or dietitian

The 12-week program is $150 a week if paid weekly. If paid in full upfront, it’s $1500, which is the equivalent of $125 a week. That’s a total of $300 savings.

Regular coaching sessions are $150 each.
